Chlorine removal

Chlorine removal is an essential process step in steam reforming and related gas processing plants to prevent the poisoning of sensitive downstream catalysts, such as reforming and methanol synthesis catalysts. In addition to catalyst protection, effective chlorine removal safeguards plant components and equipment against fouling, deposits and corrosion, thereby reducing the risk of unplanned shutdowns and minimizing maintenance and replacement costs. The reliable, long-term removal of chlorine compounds, particularly hydrogen chloride (HCl), also contributes to lower emissions and improved environmental compliance.

ActiSorb Cl2 is an aluminum-based, sodium-doped adsorbent specifically developed for the removal of hydrogen chloride (HCl) from gas streams, including natural gas and hydrogen-rich off-gas streams. Through efficient chemisorption, ActiSorb Cl2 binds and retains chlorine compounds, ensuring stable operation and long-term protection of downstream catalysts and equipment. Its robust performance makes it well suited for continuous industrial applications where reliable chlorine removal is critical.
