CO removal respiratory protection

Respiratory protection devices (filter devices) filled with C&CS #466 Hopcalite 8×14 protect personnel in industry and firefighting applications from hazardous gases, especially carbon monoxide (CO). The operating limits of these filter devices are determined by the performance of the respiratory protection filters used.

Hopcalite catalysts based on copper-manganese oxide are used in CO filters (gas filters) and air purification systems. They catalyze the oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) into carbon dioxide (CO₂) under defined operating conditions.

C&CS #466 Hopcalite Mesh is used for CO removal in technical applications. Typical areas of application include high- and low-pressure breathing air systems, respiratory protection and gas masks, breathing apparatus, as well as the purification of cryogenic gases.

C&CS Hopcalite is available in mesh sizes 8 × 14 and 12 × 20.

The mesh specification indicates the number of screen openings per inch.

The designation 8 × 14 mesh describes the particle size of the Hopcalite material.

8 × 14 mesh corresponds to an opening size of approximately 3.18 × 1.81 mm, while 12 × 20 mesh corresponds to approximately 2.12 × 1.27 mm.

The defined particle size distribution influences the pressure drop and the contact time between the gas and the catalyst.

Upon request, the reaction kinetics of CO oxidation as well as application-specific operating parameters can be analyzed by our experts in the catalyst laboratory in order to optimize the use of C&CS #466 Hopcalite Mesh in respiratory protection and filtration systems.
