Hydrogenation of nitro compounds

The hydrogenation of nitrobenzene (nitrobenzene) with the functional group -NO2 to aniline is carried out either in a discontinuous slurry process based on nickel catalysts or in an isothermal process in the gas phase using copper catalysts to avoid attacks on the aromatic ring and side reactions to diphenylamine.
The hydrogenation of nitro compounds is important in organic synthesis because it facilitates a method for introducing amino groups into organic molecules.
