Methanol synthesis

Methanol has established itself as a versatile key product in both the chemical and energy industries. It is typically produced from synthesis gas, a mixture of CO, CO₂, and H₂, via catalytic methanol synthesis.

Beyond its role as a C₁ building block for the production of basic and intermediate chemicals, methanol serves as a feedstock for innovative downstream processes such as MTO (methanol-to-olefins) and MTP (methanol-to-propylene). At the same time, methanol is gaining increasing importance in the energy sector, for example as a fuel component, in shipping, in MTG (methanol-to-gasoline) applications, and in PtM (power-to-methanol) concepts that support the transition toward more sustainable energy systems.

Thanks to its high energy density, ease of storage, and broad applicability, methanol synthesis plays a central role in linking chemical production with future-oriented energy technologies.
