Catalytic ozone decomposition (destruction) is a gas purification process used particularly in medical ozone therapy. It involves converting ozone into oxygen through a catalytic reaction. In medical applications, ozone (O₃) is used as an ozone-oxygen mixture in low, precisely controlled doses. After use, reliable and safe ozone destruction is required.
The palladium-based catalyst ActiSorb O3 is used for effective ozone deplation, reliably converting excess ozone into oxygen (O₂). ActiSorb O3 enables the safe operation of ozone generators and prevents ozone from entering the ambient air or being released uncontrolled into the environment. Since free ozone is harmful to both humans and the environment, its complete degradation is essential.
In addition to medical ozone therapy, ActiSorb O3 is used in ozone filters, ozone destroyers in the semiconductor industry, ozone degradation in UV disinfection systems, and other industrial and technical applications.
