To protect the methanol steam reforming catalyst ReforMax M from chloride-containing impurities in the methanol feed gas, a guard bed made of ShiftGuard® 200 is installed upstream. ShiftGuard® 200 can also be used as a protective fixed bed against chloride impurities upstream of the low-temperature water-gas shift (LTS) catalyst, ShiftMax® 217. The inherently high LTS activity of ShiftGuard® 200 further enhances the performance of the LTS catalyst.
