Acid-activated bleaching earth, montmorillonite

Bleaching clay is a mixture of various clay minerals that was formerly used to bleach fabrics because of its ability to bind dyes. Even today, the decolorizing effect of bleaching clay is utilized, for example, in the purification of refined cooking oils, where it removes not only dyes but also heavy metals and other harmful impurities.
