Activated alumina (Al₂O₃) is a versatile, chemically inert material with high thermal and mechanical stability. Through controlled activation processes, its porosity and surface area are increased, making it ideal for adsorption, gas purification, and catalytic applications.
In industrial use, activated alumina is widely applied for the removal of acidic gases such as HCl from exhaust air and gas streams. Impregnation with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or potassium hydroxide (KOH) produces alkaline activated alumina, which offers efficient adsorption of hydrochloric acid and other acidic contaminants.
