Adsorbens

It’s confusing: adsorption versus absorption. A brief digression.

In adsorption, molecules called adsorbates attach to the surface of a solid, the adsorbent. These are typically activated carbons, silica gels, and others that can absorb water, solvent vapors, dioxins, etc.

In contrast, absorption involves molecules of a gas or liquid, the absorbates, penetrating the volume of the absorbing substance. For example, hydrogen sulfide reacts with zinc oxide to form solid zinc sulfide throughout the grain.
