Zeolite type 4A, or simply zeolite 4A, is a synthetic, colorless aluminosilicate. In its hydrated sodium form, it has the molecular formula Na₁₂((AlO₂)₁₂(SiO₂)₁₂) · 27 H₂O and a clearly defined pore size of approximately 4 Å (0.4 nm). Zeolite 4A can selectively absorb small polar molecules, especially water. Larger molecules such as alcohols, nitrogen, oxygen, or hydrocarbons, on the other hand, can hardly penetrate it and are largely excluded.
