
ZSM-5 is a synthetic molecular sieve from the group of high-silicon zeolites.
ZSM-5 is characterized by its three-dimensional pore system with average pore sizes of approximately 5–6 Å (0.5–0.6 nm), which enables high shape and size selectivity. This allows medium-sized hydrocarbon molecules in particular to be converted in a targeted manner.
Due to its high acid strength, thermal stability, and catalytic activity, ZSM-5 is mainly used in the chemical and petrochemical industries.
Typical applications include the isomerization and alkylation of hydrocarbons, methanol-to-olefins processes, and the aromatization of hydrocarbons. ZSM-5 is also frequently used as an acid catalyst carrier in various industrial processes.
