Zinc oxide

Zinc oxide is used as an adsorbent to remove hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) from hydrocarbon streams, such as natural gas. Zinc oxide reacts with H₂S to form stable zinc sulfide, effectively removing the hydrogen sulfide. This is necessary in many catalytic processes because H₂S binds irreversibly to many catalysts, permanently deactivating them.
