C&CS #1394 – Platinum catalyst for SO2 oxidation

This platinum catalyst for the oxidation of SO₂ to SO₃ in the sulfuric acid production process represents a novel and environmentally friendly solution.
The platinum-based washcoat technology enables, among other things, the efficient conversion of SO₂ to SO₃ in contact processes.
The catalyst is available in various geometric configurations, with the number of cells in the monoliths being selectable as required.
This catalyst reduces health risks associated with vanadium oxide while simultaneously achieving savings in CAPEX and OPEX.
The catalyst can be used both for retrofitting existing converter and reactor systems and in new plants. It is used in dry and wet processes, as well as in sulfur oxidation and spent acid regeneration plants.
